Ramnagar, located on the eastern bank of the Ganges opposite Varanasi, is a historic town that served as the capital of the Maharajas of Banaras. Its main attraction is the Ramnagar Fort, a massive 18th-century sandstone structure with carved balconies and courtyards. Inside, the Saraswati Bhawan Museum houses a fascinating collection of vintage cars, royal palanquins, medieval weapons, and rare manuscripts. The town is also famous for its annual Ramlila, a dramatic reenactment of the Ramayana that lasts a full month and draws thousands of devotees. Visitors can explore the fort's ramparts for sweeping views of the Ganges and the Varanasi skyline.
