Atharanala, meaning '18 bridges,' is a centuries-old stone bridge with 18 arches spanning a canal that once formed part of Puri's defenses. As the historic gateway to the city, it welcomes visitors arriving from the north. The bridge is still in use, and walking across it provides a tangible link to Odisha's architectural past. The canal below is often busy with local boats and daily life, making it a photogenic spot that blends history with everyday activity.
Don't miss
- Count the 18 arches as you walk across the bridge
- Observe local boat traffic and fishing in the canal below
- Photograph the bridge's weathered stonework and reflections in the water
