It serves as the main entry point for tourists, with regular flights from major Indian cities like Chennai, Kolkata, and Delhi, as well as limited international services. The airport is named after the Indian independence activist Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Despite its small size, it handles a significant volume of traffic, especially during peak tourist season.
