Sri Aurobindo Ashram is the spiritual heart of Pondicherry, established in 1926 by the philosopher Sri Aurobindo and his collaborator, The Mother. The ashram is a serene complex of buildings, gardens, and meditation halls. Visitors can explore the main courtyard, the samadhi (tomb) of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, and the library. The atmosphere is contemplative, with residents and visitors engaging in yoga, meditation, and study. The ashram's bookstore sells writings on integral yoga. It remains a living community, not a tourist attraction, so respectful silence is observed.
