Golghar is a distinctive beehive-shaped granary built in 1786 by Captain John Garstin for the British East India Company to store grain during famines. Standing 29 meters high with walls 3.6 meters thick at the base, it was designed to hold 140,000 tonnes of grain. However, it was never filled to capacity due to a design flaw, the doors open inward, making it impossible to open when full. Today, visitors climb the 145 spiral steps to the top for sweeping views of the Ganges River and Patna cityscape. The structure remains an iconic landmark and a popular spot for photography.
