Victoria Gardens, officially named Jijamata Udyan, is a sprawling zoo and botanical garden located in the Byculla area of Mumbai. Established in the 19th century, it is one of the oldest zoos in India. The park combines manicured gardens with animal enclosures housing species like tigers, lions, leopards, monkeys, and birds. The garden section features a variety of trees and flowerbeds, providing a green oasis in the bustling city. A small museum within the grounds, the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, showcases decorative arts and history. While the zoo has faced criticism for aging infrastructure, recent renovations have improved some enclosures. It remains a popular spot for families and school groups, offering a low-cost day out. The park is easily accessible by local train and is a notable landmark in Mumbai's heritage.
