The Attukal Temple, located near Kovalam, is a significant Hindu shrine dedicated to the goddess Attukal Devi, an incarnation of Kannaki. The temple is most famous for the annual Attukal Pongala festival, where millions of women gather to cook a sweet rice offering in clay pots on the streets, creating a spectacular sea of fire. The temple itself features traditional Kerala architecture with a copper-plated roof and intricate woodwork. Devotees come year-round to seek blessings, and the atmosphere during festivals is electric with devotion.
