The Church of Saint Francis in Kochi is a historic landmark and one of the earliest European churches built in India. Originally constructed by Portuguese Franciscan friars in the early 16th century, it later served as the burial site for the explorer Vasco da Gama before his remains were moved to Portugal. The church features simple yet elegant architecture with wooden ceilings and whitewashed walls, and visitors can see the stone marker where da Gama's tomb once lay. It remains an active place of worship and a testament to Kochi's colonial past.
