Malana is one of Asia's oldest surviving democracies, governed by its own set of laws and a village council. Perched at 2,652 meters, its inhabitants, believed to be descendants of Alexander the Great's army, maintain a distinct culture and language. The village is also globally renowned for producing 'Malana Cream,' a potent strain of hashish. Visitors can explore the narrow stone alleys, observe traditional wooden architecture, and interact with the reserved locals, though photography and touching are restricted.

Don't miss

  • Observe the unique village council (Jamlu Devta) system in action during disputes.
  • Trek through the scenic trail from Jari to Malana, passing forests and waterfalls.
  • Sample (legally) the local cuisine, but avoid any drug-related activities due to strict local laws.
