The Archaeological Museum and Portrait Gallery in Old Goa is housed in the former Franciscan convent, adjacent to the Church of St. Francis of Assisi. Its galleries feature stone sculptures from Hindu and Jain temples dating back to the Kadamba dynasty, as well as portraits of Portuguese viceroys and governors. The museum also exhibits coins, inscriptions, and furniture that chronicle Goa's transition from Hindu rule to Portuguese colonization. A notable section showcases bronze statues from the 12th century. The peaceful courtyard offers a respite from the bustling nearby churches.
