Vajrasana, meaning 'Diamond Throne,' is a polished sandstone slab that marks the precise spot where Buddha is said to have sat in meditation and attained enlightenment. Located under the Bodhi tree within the Mahabodhi Temple complex, this sacred platform is the most venerated spot in Buddhism. According to tradition, the slab was placed by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE to commemorate the event. Pilgrims often prostrate before it, offer flowers, and meditate nearby, believing it to be the 'navel of the earth', a place of unshakable spiritual power. The throne is protected by a small railing and canopy.
