The Peace Pagoda in Darjeeling is one of many such stupas around the world, erected by the Japanese Buddhist order Nipponzan-Myohoji as a symbol of universal peace. Perched on a hill near the town, the pagoda features four large golden statues of the Buddha, each depicting a different stage of his life. Visitors can walk around the dome, spin prayer wheels, and enjoy sweeping vistas of the surrounding hills, including Mount Kanchenjunga on clear days. The tranquil atmosphere makes it a popular spot for meditation and reflection, away from the bustle of the town center.

Don't miss

  • Admire the four golden Buddha statues representing birth, enlightenment, teaching, and passing into nirvana.
  • Spin the prayer wheels along the walkway while taking in panoramic mountain views.
  • Visit early morning or late afternoon for soft light and fewer crowds.
