Disappointing Experience - Won’t Be Returning I was really excited to try this place after hearing some good things, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype. Visited this restaurant hoping for a satisfying meal, but I left feeling incredibly disappointed. The portion sizes were ridiculously small for the price. Food taste was average. The only thing satisfied me was the omelette.
I visited Nair Mess for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and ordered the veg meals (₹100), prawn fry (₹110), and mutton fry (₹110). The veg meals included poriyal, kootu, sambar, rasam, and buttermilk. While the meals were standard, they weren’t bad. If you prefer, you can also order mutton or fish gravy separately, but I opted for the prawn and mutton fry instead. Both dishes tasted good, though I found the mutton fry had too much ginger, which was noticeable in almost every bite. The prawn fry, on the other hand, was more enjoyable. Portion sizes were small but reasonable for the price, enough for one person without sharing. The place has an upscale mess vibe with plenty of staff and quick service. The ambiance and service were fine, but parking is difficult—it's better to park on the main road and walk over.
I arrived at 9 p.m. on a weekday, an hour before closing time. 90% of items were over. The parcel charges were sky-high. Even Bangalore restos have lesser parcel charges. The parcel materials were cheap, absolutely worthless. Now coming to the customer service; the staff behaviour was pathetic and hostile. So many waiters were sitting jobless but not even one was considerate. This resto should be shut down, let alone be the "best resto in Chennai". The prices were high considering the filthy area it's located in. Why do they call Mutton chops when there is only 1 small bony leftover piece in 300ml full of gravy? The chicken fry was totally full of bony and tiny pieces, I guess people feed better meat to even dogs. The chicken fry cost 160 bucks including the parcel which was not even 100gms of meat. The fish curry and "MUTTON CHOP CURRY" WAS FULL OF TAMARIND AND NOT A TRACE OF COCONUT MILK OR OIL. SHAME ON YOU NAIR MESS FOR LOOTING PEOPLES' TRUST AND MONEY. I HOPE YOUR RESTO SHUTS DOWN SOON. YOU WILL BE CURSED FOR USING SUCH SUBSTANDARD PRODUCTS AND FOOLING THE MASSES. How come no one awarded this place as the FAKE KERALA RESTO? This is the worst parcel portion I have ever had in life. The 300ml fish curry had just 1 smaller than a headpiece and the same with mutton chops. The egg dosa had no trace of egg in it or any flavors for that matter. Even roadside lorries have better quantities, quality, taste, and service.
I had lunch, Taste is good, an unlimited meals consists of mutton and fish gravies, one piece of fish / mutton, two veg side dishes and rasam, but charging 190 rupees for for is costly
