PROs - legacy , food taste , idli Sambar :) CONs - space , service Going back to rathna cafe after ages and it hasn’t changed a bit . I think I’m going back after about 10 years :) went in train and got down in Triplicane station. It was walkable distance from station . About 10-15 mins of walk. Traffic is crazy on the way while walking . Ofcourse went there for breakfast . Service was average .. there was one guy per row of tables .. guy was working hard but it’s too many tables per waiter . Space was also less . They closed the other side and made it tough for public . Idli Sambar was just awesomeeeeeeee ! No words for their quality . Price was also not that high. Very nominal price . Just loved the taste and quality of food . I’m a big fan of their sambar ! Idli Vada sambar was top notch .. coffee was too good . Sweets were ok. Not my fav ... Loved it overall. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
First things first, Sambhar is crazy good. Their Idli, Dosa and Vada are lip smacking good with the sambhar and chutney! The filter coffee is soothing. All in all, Ratna cafe never disappoints :) amazing breakfast spot. Couldn't try the Pongal though.
Ratna cafe is an iconic cafe in Chennai established in 1948, famous for its Sambhar. We ordered parota kumura and rava onion dosa. Both were good and affordable price. You may not get full menu all the time but shud for an heritage feel. Completely up for price. Special note: Ratna cafe has many outlets in Chennai, triplicane outlet is pure vegetarian. It's is established in a large market zone and near the parathasarthy temple
I had visited the restaurant in Adyar and it was amazing the ghee roast was so crispy and the aroma of the ghee was just amazing. The mini Idli's were so soft with piping hot sambar poured on top of it which also had ghee in it. The service was a bit slow but it was worth the wait. I finished my meal with some rosemilk which was just the perfect amount of sweetness for me, plus for the summer here in Chennai its my go to drink!
