We were Shocked at the state of Menu cards. The quality of the served food was not too different from the state of the menu cards. The drums of heaven were more closer to hell. Food in general was Tasteless. Staff seemed demotivated.
My go-to for simple, flavorful Chinese food- that is not too high on oils and spices. I'm a sucker for their Basil flavored soba noodles and hot pot. The food doesn't feel heavy after eating. However, the ambience and floor hygiene can be better maintained.
We had ordered in and the food was nice and tasty....But the concern is that the hot food was sent in plastic containers. This is very harmful with microplastixa being related into the food when it is piping hot. The food was delicious but the packaging needs to change.
Today this reporter had the pleasure of visitng with family their Teynampet outlet that had been operating for several years after their Main restaurant in sterling road was closed . Main Land China is a part of Speciality Restaurants Limited , that owns multiple chains of fine and casual dining restaurants & confectionery stores in India, Bangladesh and Tanzania with 135+ outlets in different Brands namely Mainland China, Asia Kitchen,Oh! Calcutta, Sigree ,Global Grill.Cafe Mezzuna, Sweet Bengal Hoppipola,Machaan Haka, Flame & GrillMobifeast This Speciality Restaurant chain was started by Mr Anjan Chatterjee MD & Susim Mukul Datta Chairman in 1992 with first outlet opened in Mumbai called "Only Fish" and later in 1994, two new brands "Oh! Calcutta" and "Mainland China" were both established in Mumbai. It is now present in Other cities like Pune, Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Chandigarh. The first outlet in Chennai was established in Sterling Road in the same campus of Hotel Aruna quality inn. It immediately caught the Chennai diners fancy and carved a niche market for itself, with their finely crafted menus that took diners on a joyful culinary journey of China from the street of Sichuan and Jiangsu all the way up to Beijing . This stand alone restaurant in Sterling Road soon became very popular in chennai soon , for it gave every diners a never-before experience in authentic culinary menus . An attached bar complimented the food . This writer has fond memories of dining many times, in this restaurant now closed (As the property owners sold the property to a realtor a few years back)and now their restuarants operate only in other areas like Teynampet , AnnaNagar and Velechery . We were well received by the restaurant at Cenatoph Road Teynampet by their restuarant Mgr Mr Subodh Who has been with them for 12 years starting with Mainland China in Mumbai . Mr Dil Bahadur , their chef with equal.number years service with this restuarant chain & in Sterling road outlet served us with Starters like Crackling fried Spinach, Crispy Lotus stems with curry leaves and black pepper ,crispy ginger chicken & Veg Dumpling in basil flavour. This was followed by Hot n sour veg soup and Lungfung veg soup . The main dish was Haka Noodles wok tossed & served with exotic vegetables in chilli & basil Sauce in a clay pot . The desert happenned to be a complimentary brownie served with chocolette sauce And Vinila icecream , for it happenned to be my Son in law.'s birthday . On the whole my family members found the taste to be very satisfying & good . The dining experience itself was quite pleasant with very courteous & fast service in a pleasing ambience . However this reporter's nostalgic memory made him feel that food taste could have been a few notches better, as the food and ambience in its erstwhile sterling road outlet had set a higher bar for culinary taste and this outlet still needs to catch up to that high standard set .
