Taragarh Fort, also known as the Star Fort, crowns a rugged hill above Bundi. Built in the 14th century, it is one of India's oldest hill forts. Visitors climb a winding path past massive gates and ruined palaces to reach the summit, where the Bhim Burj, a massive cannon, still stands. The fort's battlements and reservoirs, like the Rani Mahal and the Garbh Gunjam cave, hint at its storied past. The real reward is the panoramic vista: a sea of blue-washed Bundi houses, the shimmering Nawal Sagar Lake, and distant hills stretching to the horizon.

Don't miss

  • Stand beside the Bhim Burj, a giant cannon that once guarded the fort
  • Explore the Rani Mahal, the queen's palace with faded frescoes and lattice windows
  • Take in the 360-degree view of Bundi town and the Aravalli range from the fort's highest point
