The Bodhi tree at Mahabodhi Temple is a direct descendant of the original Ficus religiosa under which the Buddha sat in meditation and attained enlightenment. This revered tree stands in the temple courtyard, its broad canopy providing shade for pilgrims who sit and meditate. The current tree was planted from a sapling of the Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, which itself came from the original tree. Visitors often tie prayer flags and offer flowers at its base, experiencing a tangible connection to Buddhist history.

Don't miss

  • Sit in meditation under the tree's expansive branches, following Buddha's example.
  • Observe pilgrims offering flowers, incense, and prayer flags at the tree's base.
  • Photograph the tree with the Mahabodhi Temple spire rising behind it.
