The Oudh State, also known as the Kingdom of Awadh, was a prominent princely state in northern India with its capital at Lucknow, but its influence extended to Ayodhya. Visitors can explore the region's rich history through surviving structures like old havelis (mansions), stepwells, and mosques that reflect a blend of Mughal and local architectural styles. The area offers a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the Nawabs of Awadh, with stories of their patronage of arts and culture. Today, Ayodhya retains some of this heritage in its older quarters.
