Musamman Burj is an elegant octagonal tower within the Agra Fort, renowned as the place where Emperor Shah Jahan was held captive by his son Aurangzeb in his final years. From this marble-clad pavilion, the emperor could gaze upon the distant Taj Mahal, the tomb of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. Visitors today can stand in the same spot, taking in the iconic view through the intricate jali screens. The tower's delicate carvings and inlaid pietra dura work reflect Mughal artistry at its peak, making it a poignant and architecturally significant stop within the fort complex.

Don't miss

  • The marble jali screens that frame the view of the Taj Mahal
  • Intricate pietra dura inlay work on the walls and pillars
  • The octagonal design with a central fountain, once used by the emperor
