Domkirkjan, or Reykjavik Cathedral, is the oldest church in Iceland and the seat of the Bishop of Iceland. Despite its modest size compared to the more famous Hallgrímskirkja, this Lutheran cathedral holds immense historical significance. Located in the heart of the city at Austurvöllur square, its distinctive green copper spire is a recognizable landmark. The interior is simple yet elegant, with a beautiful altarpiece, a historic pulpit, and a notable organ. Visitors often come to admire the architecture and the peaceful atmosphere, as well as to see the spot where Iceland's independence was declared in 1844. The surrounding square is a popular gathering place, especially in summer when locals picnic on the grass.
