Vestfjarðagöng is a 9.1-kilometer tunnel that opened in 1996, linking the towns of Ísafjörður and Flateyri in the Westfjords. It is one of Iceland's longest tunnels and a key piece of infrastructure, reducing travel time and providing safe passage through the mountainous region.
