Volcán San Pedro stands at 3,020 meters (9,908 feet) on the southwestern shore of Lake Atitlán. The hike to the summit takes about 3–4 hours up through cloud forest and volcanic terrain, with steep sections that require good fitness. At the top, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of the lake, the other volcanoes, and the patchwork of villages below. The trail is best done with a local guide, as the path can be slippery and foggy. Many tours depart from San Pedro La Laguna early in the morning.
