Panabaj is a quiet village hugging the shore of Lake Atitlán, just south of Panajachel. It is renowned for its artisan workshops where local Tz'utujil Maya create handwoven textiles, beadwork, and traditional crafts. Visitors can watch artisans at work, purchase directly, and learn about ancestral techniques. The village also serves as the trailhead for the Cerro de Oro hike, a moderate climb rewarding hikers with one of the best panoramic views of the lake and its volcanic sentinels. The atmosphere is relaxed, with fewer crowds than neighboring towns, making it ideal for those seeking authentic cultural immersion and natural beauty.
