San Benito is the easternmost of the three connected towns, just beyond Santa Elena, and serves as a major transport node for the Petén region. Its streets are filled with tuk-tuks, buses, and trucks, reflecting its role as a logistics center. The town has a gritty, authentic charm, with a large market offering everything from hardware to fresh fish. Visitors can find inexpensive comedores (small restaurants) serving regional dishes like pepián and caldo de res. San Benito is less touristy than Flores, providing a glimpse into everyday Guatemalan life.

Don't miss

  • Explore the sprawling San Benito market for local produce, meat, and household goods.

  • Watch the constant flow of buses and tuk-tuks at the main transport hub.
