Nixtun Chʼichʼ is an ancient Maya settlement located on the northern shore of Lake Petén Itzá, near the town of San Andrés. Unlike the more famous Tikal, this site remains largely unexcavated, with grass-covered mounds and scattered stone structures emerging from the jungle. Visitors can walk among the ruins, imagining the city that once thrived here, and enjoy panoramic views of the lake. The site offers a more intimate, off-the-beaten-path experience for archaeology enthusiasts. Its lakeside position makes it a peaceful spot for reflection, far from the crowds of larger tourist sites.

Don't miss
