Therapne, an ancient settlement on a hill overlooking the Eurotas River, was a major cult center dedicated to Helen and Menelaus, the legendary royal couple of Sparta. Archaeological excavations have revealed a sanctuary (the Menelaion), a large rectangular building with terraces, and Mycenaean tombs. Visitors can walk among the ruins, which include stone foundations and pottery fragments, while enjoying panoramic views of the Spartan plain.
