Petaloudes, also known as the Valley of the Butterflies, is a serene nature reserve on the western side of Rhodes. During the summer months (June to September), the valley becomes home to thousands of Panaxia quadripunctaria tiger moths, which are attracted to the resin of the storax trees. Visitors walk along wooden pathways through a lush, shaded gorge, crossing small streams and bridges. The moths, in shades of brown and white, cluster on tree trunks and rocks, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. The reserve also features a small museum and a waterfall, making it a peaceful escape from the coast.
