The Fortifications of Rhodes are a remarkable example of medieval military architecture, constructed by the Knights Hospitaller between the 14th and 16th centuries. These massive stone walls, up to 12 meters thick in places, encircle the entire Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visitors can walk along sections of the ramparts, explore gates and towers, and see the moat. The fortifications withstood sieges, including the famous 1522 siege by Suleiman the Magnificent, and offer panoramic views of the city and sea.

Don't miss

  • Walk the ramparts for views of the Old Town and harbor
  • Explore the Palace of the Grand Master within the walls
  • See the Gate of Amboise, a grand entrance with a drawbridge
