The archaeological site of Armenoi preserves one of the largest Minoan cemeteries in Crete, with more than 200 chamber tombs hewn into the soft limestone hillside. Dating from the Late Minoan period (1400–1200 BCE), these tombs were family vaults, each containing multiple burials and grave goods such as pottery, jewelry, and weapons. Visitors can walk among the tombs, many still open, and see the dromos (entrance passages) and burial chambers. A small on-site museum displays finds from the excavations, including a rare bronze double axe and intricately decorated larnakes (clay coffins).
