The Stadium at Olympia is a remarkably preserved ancient athletic venue, where the Olympic footraces, the core event of the Games, took place. Visitors can walk onto the track, which is surrounded by earthen embankments that once held up to 45,000 spectators. The starting line, marked by stone slabs with grooves for the runners' toes, is still in place. The stadium's simple design emphasizes the pure athletic competition, free of permanent seating, and offers a tangible connection to the ancient athletes who raced here every four years.

Don't miss

  • Walk the original track surface, still intact after 2,500 years
  • See the stone starting blocks (balbides) with toe grooves
  • Stand at the judges' seat on the south embankment
