The House of the Tiles is a remarkably well-preserved Early Helladic structure (c. 2500 BC) at Lerna, named for the terracotta roof tiles found on site. Its monumental size, corridor-like rooms, and traces of wall frescoes indicate it was an important administrative or communal building. Visitors view the excavated stone foundations and learn about its construction techniques, which include a tiled roof, an innovation at the time, and evidence of a second story.

Don't miss

  • Examine the stone foundations and the layout of the building, including its central corridor.
  • Look for the replica of a clay sealing found here, depicting a ship.
  • Note the fragments of frescoes, among the earliest in mainland Greece.
