Anavatos is a hauntingly beautiful ghost village perched on a sheer cliff face in central Chios. Abandoned after a massacre in 1822 during the Greek War of Independence, its stone houses and narrow alleys remain largely intact, frozen in time. Visitors can wander through the ruins, climb to the top for breathtaking vistas of the surrounding valleys and sea, and reflect on the island's turbulent history. The site's eerie silence and dramatic setting make it a memorable destination.
