Fort Kongenstein, built by Danish traders in the 1780s, stands on the eastern bank of the Volta River near Ada Foah. Though now in ruins, the fort's stone walls and bastions offer a glimpse into Ghana's colonial past as a trading post for gold and slaves. Visitors can explore the site and climb to the top for sweeping views of the Volta estuary and the Atlantic Ocean. The fort's remote, overgrown setting adds a sense of discovery. It is less visited than coastal forts like Elmina, providing a quieter historical experience.

Don't miss

  • Climb the fort's ruins for panoramic views of the Volta River and Atlantic Ocean.
  • Explore the remaining stone walls and bastions dating from the 1780s Danish era.
  • Photograph the overgrown site, which offers a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path atmosphere.
