The Maxau Rhine Bridges are a pair of parallel bridges – one for road traffic and one for rail – that span the Rhine River just west of Karlsruhe. The road bridge, opened in 1966, is a modern steel structure with a pedestrian walkway, while the rail bridge, dating from 1940, carries the main railway line to the Palatinate.
