The Alter Kranen is a striking stone crane built between 1767 and 1773 on the banks of the Main River in Würzburg. Designed by architect Balthasar Neumann, this Baroque structure features two massive stone pillars with a wooden boom and a roof, used historically to load and unload goods from riverboats. Today, it stands as a picturesque monument along the river promenade, offering visitors a glimpse into the city's commercial past. The crane is a popular spot for photography, especially at sunset when the warm light illuminates the stonework. Nearby, you can enjoy views of the Marienberg Fortress and the Old Main Bridge. The site is freely accessible and provides a pleasant place to rest on benches while watching boats pass by.
