The Zillierbach Dam, also known as the Zillierbach Reservoir, is a scenic water body set in the Harz mountains just south of Wernigerode. Built in the early 20th century to supply drinking water, the dam and its surrounding forests have become a beloved destination for walkers, joggers, and nature lovers. A well-maintained path runs along the reservoir's edge, offering stunning views of the calm water against a backdrop of rolling hills and dense woodland. The area is particularly beautiful in autumn when the leaves turn golden, and in winter when snow dusts the landscape. Birdwatchers will enjoy spotting waterfowl and forest birds, while the dam itself is an impressive example of early concrete engineering. The site is a peaceful escape from the town, perfect for a leisurely stroll or a family outing.
