The Mouse Tower (Mäuseturm) is a striking medieval tower standing on a small island in the Rhine near Bingen. Its name comes from a gruesome legend: the cruel Bishop Hatto, who burned peasants during a famine, was supposedly eaten alive by mice in the tower. The current structure dates from the 13th century and originally served as a toll tower for passing ships. Today, it is a romantic ruin that can be viewed from the riverbanks or during boat cruises. The tower's silhouette against the Rhine is a classic photo opportunity, and the legend adds a spooky charm. While you cannot enter the tower, it remains a beloved landmark.
