Toppler Castle, known locally as Topplerschlösschen, is a striking medieval residential tower that seems to defy gravity as it perches on a narrow spur above the Tauber Valley. Built around 1388 by the powerful mayor Heinrich Toppler, this half-timbered structure served as his private retreat and a symbol of his wealth and influence. Visitors approach via a wooden bridge that spans the steep ravine, leading to a compact but fascinating interior. Inside, you'll find period furnishings and exhibits that evoke the life of a medieval nobleman. The tower's most captivating feature is its precarious location: from the upper floors, you can gaze down into the deep valley or across to the city walls of Rothenburg. The surrounding gardens and vineyard terraces add to the romantic atmosphere, making it a favorite spot for photographers and history enthusiasts alike.
