St. Peter's Church (Petrikirche) is one of Rostock's four historic parish churches, built in the 14th century. Its 117-meter tower is the tallest in the city, offering visitors a breathtaking 360-degree view of Rostock's red-brick rooftops, the Warnow River, and the Baltic Sea on clear days. The climb involves a mix of stairs and a modern elevator that takes you most of the way, with a short final staircase to the observation deck. Inside the church, you'll find a simple, light-filled interior with a striking modern altar and stained-glass windows. The church was heavily damaged in World War II but has been carefully restored, blending medieval architecture with contemporary elements. It's a must-visit for those wanting to orient themselves in Rostock and capture memorable photos of the cityscape.

Don't miss

  • Panoramic view of Rostock and the Baltic Sea from the tower
  • Modern stained-glass windows and altar in the restored interior
  • Historic astronomical clock replica in the nearby St. Mary's Church (separate visit)
  • Peaceful atmosphere for reflection away from the city bustle
