St. Mary's Church (Marienkirche) is the main parish church of Rostock and a masterpiece of North German Brick Gothic architecture. Built between 1290 and the 15th century, its imposing spire dominates the city skyline. Inside, the church is vast and light-filled, with soaring vaulted ceilings and intricate stained glass. The star attraction is the astronomical clock, built in 1472, which still functions and shows the phases of the moon, zodiac signs, and the date. The clock's automated figures perform at noon. The high altar, a triptych from 1475, depicts scenes from the life of Mary. Other treasures include a bronze baptismal font (1290) and a pulpit from 1574. The church also houses a small museum with religious artifacts.
