Perched on a hill above Passau, Veste Oberhaus is a formidable medieval fortress that has guarded the city since the 13th century. Today, it houses a museum (Oberhausmuseum) detailing the region's history, from the Stone Age to modern times. The real draw, however, is the breathtaking view from its terraces and towers: a sweeping panorama of Passau's old town, the confluence of the Danube, Inn, and Ilz rivers, and the surrounding Bavarian countryside. Visitors can explore the fortress walls, courtyards, and a restaurant with outdoor seating. The site also hosts events and exhibitions. A steep climb from the old town is rewarded with unforgettable vistas.
