St. Michael's Church (Michaeliskirche) is a masterpiece of Ottonian Romanesque architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Built between 1010 and 1033 under Bishop Bernward, the church features a symmetrical design with two choirs (east and west) and a flat wooden ceiling painted with the Jesse Tree, a rare 13th-century artwork. The west choir houses the bronze Bernward Doors (now replicas; originals in the cathedral museum). The crypt contains the tomb of Bishop Bernward. The church's geometric precision and use of alternating columns and piers create a rhythmic interior. The surrounding cloister and gardens offer a peaceful retreat. St. Michael's is a key example of early medieval architecture in Germany.
