The Elbphilharmonie is a modern architectural icon in Hamburg's HafenCity district, perched on top of a former warehouse. Its glass facade resembles a giant wave or sail, reflecting the city's maritime heritage. The concert hall itself is renowned for its exceptional acoustics, but even if you don't attend a performance, you can visit the public plaza (Plaza) which offers 360-degree views of the harbor, the Elbe River, and the city skyline. The building houses a luxury hotel, apartments, and a music education area. The experience of ascending the long, curved escalator through the old warehouse structure to the glassy new building is a journey in itself. The plaza is free to access and provides a unique perspective on Hamburg's urban landscape.

Don't miss

  • Ride the long, curved escalator from the old warehouse to the new building
  • Enjoy panoramic views from the free public Plaza
  • Admire the wave-like glass facade from outside
  • Attend a concert in the world-class main hall if possible
  • Explore the surrounding HafenCity district with its modern architecture
