Treppenstein is a distinctive rock formation located in the Harz mountains, about 7 kilometers south of Goslar. It consists of a series of stepped granite blocks that resemble a staircase, hence the name 'Treppenstein' (stair stone). The site is a popular destination for climbers, with several routes of varying difficulty on the solid granite. For non-climbers, the area offers pleasant hiking trails that wind through the forest and lead to the base of the rocks. The formation is part of the Harz Nature Park and is less frequented than other climbing spots, providing a quieter experience. The surrounding forest is home to diverse flora and fauna, including rare mosses and lichens on the rocks. Treppenstein is also a geotope, showcasing the region's geological history. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful walk, watch climbers, or try bouldering on the lower blocks.
