Romkerhall is a charming ensemble of a small castle-like building and a cascading waterfall set in the narrow Oker valley, about 10 kilometers south of Goslar. The building, built in the 19th century in a romantic Tudor style, was originally a hunting lodge and later a hotel. Today it houses a restaurant and a hotel, but the main draw is the waterfall that plunges over a rocky ledge beside the structure. The waterfall is especially impressive after heavy rain or snowmelt, and the surrounding forest adds to the fairy-tale atmosphere. Visitors can view the waterfall from a small bridge or from the restaurant's terrace. The site is a popular stop for cyclists and hikers along the Oker valley, and it's a favorite photo spot. The area also offers short walking paths along the river.

Don't miss

  • Photograph the waterfall with the castle-like building in the background
  • Enjoy coffee or a meal on the terrace overlooking the waterfall
  • Walk the short riverside paths in the Oker valley
  • Visit in spring when snowmelt makes the waterfall especially powerful
  • Combine with a bike ride along the Oker valley cycle path
