Goslar Cathedral, officially the Church of Saints Simon and Jude, is a former imperial church and now a museum. Built in the 11th century, it served as the spiritual heart of the imperial palace complex. Though partially destroyed in the 19th century, the surviving structure, the porch, crypt, and cloister, offers a rare glimpse into Romanesque ecclesiastical architecture. Inside, visitors can see the original bronze baptismal font, medieval frescoes, and the famous 'Goslar Gospels' manuscript. The crypt houses the tombs of emperors and bishops. The museum also displays liturgical objects and stone carvings. Its intimate scale and historical resonance make it a must-see for those interested in medieval church history. The site is often less crowded than the palace, offering a peaceful atmosphere for reflection.
