The Isted Lion (Istedløven) is a large bronze statue located in Flensburg, Germany, commemorating the Battle of Isted (1850) during the First Schleswig War. The lion, standing on a granite pedestal, is a powerful symbol of Danish nationalism and the struggle for Schleswig-Holstein. Originally erected in 1862 in Flensburg, it was moved to Berlin after the Second Schleswig War, then returned to Flensburg in 1945. The statue depicts a lion with its paw on a cannonball, representing victory. Today, it stands in a park near the harbor, surrounded by greenery. Visitors can view the statue up close and read the inscriptions. The site is a poignant reminder of the region's complex history and is often a point of reflection for both Danish and German visitors.
