The Eisenach Charterhouse, known locally as Kartause, is a former Carthusian monastery located on the outskirts of Eisenach. Founded in the 14th century, it served as a secluded religious community for Carthusian monks until the Reformation. The complex features a Gothic church, a peaceful cloister, and several monastic buildings. After centuries of use as a hospital and later a school, it was restored and now functions as a cultural venue hosting concerts, exhibitions, and events. Visitors can explore the church with its vaulted ceilings and historic organ, stroll through the cloister garden, and view changing art exhibits in the former monks' cells. What makes this site distinctive is its blend of medieval architecture and modern cultural use, offering a serene atmosphere away from the city bustle. The site also includes a café and a small museum detailing the monastery's history. The surrounding grounds are ideal for a quiet walk.
