The German Inland Waterways Museum (Museum der Deutschen Binnenschifffahrt) is located on the banks of the Ruhr river in Duisburg, a city at the heart of Europe's largest inland port. The museum traces the history of river shipping from ancient logboats to modern container vessels. Housed in a former shipbuilding hall, it features full-size historic boats, interactive exhibits on lock systems and cargo handling, and a collection of models and maritime artifacts. Visitors can step aboard the museum ship 'Oscar Huber', a steam-powered paddle tug, and explore the engine room. The museum offers a hands-on look at how waterways shaped the region's industrial development.
