The Gasometer Oberhausen is a colossal industrial landmark repurposed as an extraordinary exhibition venue. Built in 1929, this 117-meter-high cylindrical gas holder once stored blast furnace gas for the steel industry. Today, its vast interior, one of the largest column-free spaces in Europe, hosts immersive art and photography exhibitions, with themes ranging from climate change to the cosmos. Visitors can take a glass elevator to the roof for a 360-degree panoramic view of the Ruhr region, including the nearby CentrO shopping complex and the Rhine-Herne Canal. The combination of industrial heritage and cutting-edge exhibitions makes it a must-see.
